Following his graduation from D&E, Gerry began his teaching career with the Bergenfield Public Schools. In recognition of his 47 years of dedication and service to Woodcliff Lake, the borough council renamed the borough's major league field, The Lockwood Field. Four years later, he was appointed as the town's Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, a role he served for 43 years until his retirement in 2000. Gerry's earliest employment after graduating high school was as Asst Pool Director and lifeguard at Old Mill Park in Woodcliff Lake. He attended Davis and Elkins College in WV, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957. Gerry grew up in Woodcliff Lake and attended Park Ridge High School from which he graduated in 1953. He is also survived by his most cherished friend and companion, Marion McCarthy of Washington Township, NJ. He was the devoted grandfather to 3 adored grandchildren, Adele and Rose Lockwood and Carter Crouch. He was the proud and loving father of Brent and his wife Emily of Madison, WI and daughter, Amanda and her husband, Dr. He was predeceased in 2008 by his wife, and love of his life, Kathleen, nee Patterson. Garret Kroner "Gerry" of Franklin Lakes passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27th at the age of 87.
